Art Therapy Intervention Program

This 6-month program is designed to help children and parents manage behaviors and emotions with art therapy and creative problem solving strategies.

This program involves 3 phases of treatment:

Bi-monthly 50 minutes sessions

Initial/ mid-treatment/end of treatment sessions with Parents/Guardian

Monthly phone check in with Parents/Guardian initiated by parent

Monthly contact with school/ other professionals to facilitate positive changes

Phase 1 (Sessions 1-4)

Goals:

  1. Meet with parents/guardian and formulate treatment plan.
  2. Identify problems and treatment goals.
  3. Facilitate psychological safety and build the therapeutic relationship using art materials.
  4. Develop an awareness of thoughts, feelings, and underlying issues that relate to problems using art materials.

Phase 2 (Sessions 5-8)

Goals:

  1. Use art materials to develop coping strategies and learn self-soothing techniques.
  2. Learn new creative thinking and problem solving tools using art materials.
  3. Apply creative solutions to manage stress and emotions.
  4. Meet with parents/Guardian review changes and progress.

Phase 3 (Sessions 9-12)

Goals:

  1. Maintain behavioral changes and continue to regulate emotions.
  2. Continue to practice coping strategies and problem solving tools through art tasks.
  3. Review client’s progress and artwork.
  4. Reward successes.
  5. Make future treatment recommendations with client and evaluate with parents/guardian.

6 phone check-in calls for parent support.

12 hours of direct client and parent support.

6 months of contact with school/ other professionals.

6 months of client and family support.
