Art Therapy Intervention for Teens
This 6-month program is designed to help adolescents and parents manage behaviors and emotions with art therapy and creative problem solving strategies.
This program involves 3 phases of treatment:
Bi-monthly 50 minutes sessions
Initial/ mid-treatment/end of treatment sessions with Parents/Guardian
Monthly phone check in with Parents/Guardian initiated by parent
Monthly contact with school/ other professionals to facilitate positive changes
Phase 1 (Sessions 1-4)
Goals:
- Meet with teen and parents/guardian to formulate treatment plan.
- Identify problems and treatment goals.
- Facilitate psychological safety and build the therapeutic relationship using art materials.
- Develop an awareness of thoughts, feelings, and underlying issues that relate to problems using art materials.
- Use art materials to develop coping strategies and learn self-soothing techniques.
- Learn new creative thinking and problem solving tools using art materials.
- Apply creative solutions to manage stress and emotions.
- Meet with parents/Guardian review changes and progress.
- Maintain behavioral changes and continue to regulate emotions.
- Continue to practice coping strategies and problem solving tools through art tasks.
- Review client’s progress and artwork.
- Reward successes.
- Make future treatment recommendations with client and evaluate with parents/guardian.
