Children’s Creative Journey Through Cancer Program

Cancer has hijacked your life. It has shaken your core, physically and emotionally and created havoc in your family life. The simple stuff, like arguments over homework, betimes, curfews, and who gets to sit in the front seat and “mom tell him to stop”, those things have lost their impact. Yes, this still happens, but underneath there is much more to worry about than who gets the front seat. There is fear and uncertainty, confusion, hope and doubt. There is worry of sharing with the kids too much or too little, when and how.

Yet, children know. They are tuned in empathetic beings who can feel the tension, hear your concern, and see the subtle changes in your behavior and those around them. They know.

You may worry that they are keeping it all inside,or you have noticed that your child’s behavior has changed and they are acting out, getting into trouble, or their grades are slipping because they don’t have a positive way to communicate what they are feeling. Children are so worried about hurting their parents, and often they will keep things inside because:
  • they don’t want to upset you, or
  • ”make mom cry”, or
  • they are scared of asking questions
They may hold on the beliefs that if they acted better or changed in some way, then the cancer would go away and things would go back to normal. Even if you ask your child to tell you what they are feeling and what they need, they may keep their feelings from you because they don’t want to hurt you.

So how do you lovingly support your child or teen through this time when your own fears and doubts make it difficult for you to just support yourself and get through the day?

With love, compassion, honesty, and communication.

I developed a program specifically to help children & teens whose parent has cancer called the Children's Creative Journey Through Cancer

The Children’s Creative Journey Through Cancer allows children and parent to explore compassion, communication, and holding each other in a place of love and acceptance through cancer. This process allows for the unfoldment of the full depth and breath of feelings, creating a safe place for your child to feel the sadness and fear, to creating a space for playfulness, hope and possibilities. Within the Children’s Creative Journey Through Cancer process your child explores acceptance and understanding of their feelings without trying to hide, mask, deny, or run from their feelings.

Here’s how the Children's Creative Journey Through Cancer Program  supports your child:

  • A deeper understanding of feelings through the use of creative expression, art making, and play
  • A safe space to express their emotions that have come from their experiences with cancer
  • A healing and honoring way for your child to listen to their inner knowing and create more acceptance and peace
  • Specific strategies to help your child receive support and communicate their needs
  • A safe space for your child to explore worries, fears, and concerns without the fear of causing others to worry
  • A safe reprieve from the worry from their parent’s cancer, where they are compassionately  supported and can welcome in love, peace, playfulness and healing
  • An opportunity to be supported so they can give voice to the difficult questions they have

I’d like to talk with you about my child and learn more. What’s the best way to reach you?
