“All Hail the Queen”

Art Therapy Feedback

"Our six-year-old daughter came to art therapy on the recommendation of our family therapist. She was supremely oppositional and defiant and would fly into a rage when confronted with instructions from on us (her parents) and also fought often with her brother. These “episodes” were occurring several times each day. It was tearing our family apart. After our second or third visit to art therapy, we saw substantial changes in our daughter’s behavior. Where a simple request of” time to brush your teeth” may have turned into a fifteen minute power struggle, our daughter willingly performed daily tasks. And as she’s made a better choices, we sensed that she was not only proud, but as relieved as we were to get through transitions smoothly. Our daughter’s art therapist has been able to help her (and her parents) find alternative ways to respond when she is dissatisfied."

(Note: as of the date this was written this young girl has gone 37 days with only three “episodes”!)

“It has made me happier. Its helped me a lot”. (teenager)

“I was skeptical at first. A little worried that it might be just one more “hippy” therapy to try. But I was wrong- thank goodness! My son really began to open up, and feel safe expressing his worries, and then being able to work through them. It helps for him to be able to express himself with his hands, as he is so tactile. The teachers and I have noticed a big improvement in both is attitude and his performance at school. Thank you, Laura”!

(Note: the Director of the school approached me about this teen, stating he has been the school’s greatest success story this year. His mother told me they are calling this his quantum year!)

“Laura, your remarkable coaching abilities are enhanced by your keen insight. During our coaching sessions you made me aware of different aspects that were interfering with my efforts to move forward. I was then able to remove those obstacles. It was a privilege to be coached by you”.

“ Through our therapy our daughter has developed a sense of pride about her self as well as her artistic creations”.

“I was surprised how my daughter was open to the idea of talking in expressing herself to a therapist. She actually looks forward to going and I believe it has had a positive impact on her life”.

“ Art therapy has helped me to be more open with my problems to my friends and family”. (teenager)

“My son is autistic and has been seeing Ms. Laura for a month. We have seen a big increase in his language and are excited to see him opening up more. He loves to play with Ms. Laura.

Coaching Feedback

“Laura’s compassion and warmth has greatly helped me plant the seeds of understanding and communication between myself, my children, and my husband. It has been a blessing to have Laura as my coach. She has untiringly shown me the healing light in difficult times. Thank you Laura, from the bottom of my heart

“I wanted to express my happiness and thanks that our paths in life brought us both to Florida, and met. Your constant reinforcement, motivation, and wonderful personality have gotten me through the worst experiences this year. My relationship with my girls has improved and I truly believe we are closer. You constantly commend and remind me that I am resourceful, even though I am doubtful at times. I am truly blessed to have you as coach.

Group Feedback

“What I’ve found most helpful from the facilitator was her encouragement and innate talents. Her taste is delightful and refreshing. Laura is insightful and intuitive and graceful in presenting these qualities”.

“You could feel the group getting closer with every passing week. I never felt judged by what I shared with the group. Actually, I saw others in the group call on their own life experiences and share them with me, which was comforting”.

“What I’ve found most helpful from the facilitator was her comments about my pieces which helped in my understanding and growth. I also appreciated her ideas for projects, which were progressive in nature and for her wisdom honoring everyone’s production”.

Workshop Feedback

“What I liked most about the workshop was a chance to try/do the meditation and art exploration. Good understanding of career provided. Great comfort level for questions especially”.

“What I like most about the workshop was the mountain road meditation which was enlightening for me. I was stuck on a muddy path up the mountain, but when the word “obstacles” was mentioned I had an image of myself rock climbing straight to the top, so I didn’t have to remain stuck”!

“What I liked most about presentation was a chance to experience process rather than just hear about it”.

“What I like most about the workshop was that I was able to express myself and learned that I am more creative than I realized”!

“I highly recommend this seminar”.

“I understand the purpose art therapy and what it can do for person. I had never thought of putting what was going on inside me into an art project”.

“Very well done”.

“This topic has always interested me and I feel I did get an opportunity to experience what it feels like to participate in an art therapy session.
Overall – wonderful”!

Clinical Presentation Feedback

“I attended your presentation at the Florida Art Therapy State conference, it was fabulous! You hit on everything that works and beyond. You exhibited confidence and pizzazz. I was fairly taken by your presentation and thank you for all the hard work and organization that went into it”.

“ Your recent presentation about art therapy was a great experience for me. I learned quite a bit from it and incorporated some your techniques. Just about all my clients (ages 7-18) have drawn the road map. Surprising at first (but now I’ve come to expect it) they were all fascinated by what they learn about themselves. And the insight it gave me into who they are has been invaluable. Where they used to watch the clock and offer the most succinct answers, they’re opening up more and more times than not and I have to shoo them out of my office. A couple clients have asked if they could continue to see me after they met the required number of court- ordered sessions. I did not expect to see such significant change so soon and I want to thank you for the great information”.

“ I really enjoyed your presentation on art therapy. I found it beneficial to use with children and adolescence. In fact I utilized the road map activity with one of my depressed clients this past week. The road map is an interesting activity because it really helps you to think about your life, and to evaluate future options. Thanks for sharing your passion with us”.
